Principal’s Report

Community Spirit
Our school has recently experienced a number of events that have captured the connection we have with the community and the positive relationships we foster between our school, parents and the wider community.
Thankyou to Gay Riley from the Chappy Committee and their volunteer team, who will present our staff with a Morning Tea for Chappy Week. Our Chaplain Tracey Storey and our staff will be acknowledged for the care and compassion they show to the Kuluin community. Chappy Tracey is involved in several important programs across our school such as Chappy Breakfast and individual support for children and families. Chappy Tracey has reduced her days to two days week for the rest of the year – Monday and Wednesday. Brekky Club is being trialled on Wednesday morning to fit in with Chappy’s days. The days will be reviewed again for term 3.
Our P&C and Tuckshop Convenor Katrina Sadler were also recently recognised for their ongoing commitment to our school and support of our Kuluin community. We greatly appreciate the support that ongoing volunteers also provide to the Executive. The next P&C meeting is Monday 16th June at 6pm in the Resource Centre. All welcome.

Bookfair Thankyou to Mrs Claire Toth, Mrs Rebecca Dehey and our supportive teaching and teacher aide staff who contributed to Bookfair and for instilling in our students to READ…READ…READ. Book Fair is one of the major whole school community events that reminds us of the importance of reading. Thankyou to the staff who volunteered their time with Book Fair activities over the week and also to our families for supporting your children to purchase books. We love reading at Kuluin! We had a target of $10,000, which looked to be challenging - but we made it! We sold a generous $10,065.
School Expectations
To be recognised as a Kuluin Student Leader, students must follow our school rules and expectations explicitly. We expect the same from all of our students. Students must…
- Consistently follow the school rules and exhibit a standard of behaviour;
- Promote and uphold the good image of the school and its students at all times;
- Display exemplary work habits and outstanding effort in all learning areas;
- Be actively involved in school activities, encouraging others, respecting differences and be compassionate and caring towards others;
- Represent the student body at official school functions/events e.g. ANZAC Day; Open Days; Sports Days; Education Week; OptiMINDS; choirs; discos; leadership days; Dance Fever, Musicals etc.
- Welcome visitors to the school;
- Represent the school beyond the local community e.g. Student Leadership Forums; Volunteer Groups;
- Wear our school uniform and broad brimmed hat every day.
Year 5 students applying for a leadership position must be signed off by their class teacher and specialist teachers to ensure that their standard consistently meets the criteria. Mr. Gaske, the School Captains and I conducted our first round of leadership interviews this term. Successful Year 5 students will receive their badge on our Excellence parade Wednesday 18th June at 2pm in the hall. There will be another application round in term 3. Thankyou to Mr. Gene Harvey for leading our Student Council and motivating our students in their leadership experience at Kuluin and to Mr. Adam Russel for coordinating the Year 5 leadership process.
Uniform Reminders
During the colder month’s children are expected to wear the Kuluin State School jumper or a plain green or black jumper. Multicoloured jumpers or socks are not part of the school uniform. Students have been reminded about uniform expectations on parade recently and teachers have been asked to follow up with individual students.
Kind Regards,
Corrie Connors

Year Prep to 2
Prep–Year 2 News from the Deputy Principal
As the weather cools, the learning heats up!
As the cooler weather sets in, it’s a great time to check that all jumpers, hats, and containers are clearly labelled. We often find belongings left behind in classrooms, on the playground, or after specialist lessons, and labelled items are much easier to return to their rightful owner.
It’s been a fabulous few weeks in the early years! Our Prep students have had some truly magical learning moments, from our special Mother’s Day Pampering to an adventurous Outdoor Learning Day. A big thank you to our Prep teachers and teacher aides for designing such thoughtful, engaging experiences. The joy on students’ faces speaks volumes!
Adding to the excitement, Prep students have welcomed baby chicks and egg incubators into their classrooms. These hands-on experiences are helping bring their learning about farms to life—there’s nothing quite like connecting classroom concepts with the real world.
Our Year 1 students recently took their learning outside the classroom with a fantastic excursion to Sea Life. As part of their information report writing unit, they’ve been exploring sea creatures, learning about their habitats, diets, and unique features. We loved this fun fact from Hugo in 1B:
"When an octopus loses an arm, it just grows a new one. It also has blue blood and three hearts!" 🐙💙
Meanwhile, Year 2 students have been exploring the final frontier—Outer Space! The classrooms have been buzzing with out-of-this-world facts about planets and our solar system. 2C even created hanging models of the solar system that are out of this world (pun fully intended!). 🚀🪐
Don’t forget to like our Kuluin State School Facebook page to keep up to date with all events, see shared photos and celebrations.
A big thank you to our families for continuing to support our school safety expectations. A reminder that students should not be on school grounds before 8:30am unless supervised by an adult. Staff are busy preparing for the day’s learning and cannot provide supervision at this time. If your family requires care before 8:30am, our fantastic on-site Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) is available.
Please also take a moment to ensure your contact details are up to date with the office so we can reach you quickly if needed.

Prep 2026 Enrolments are Open!
We’ve begun our Prep Tours and have loved welcoming new families to explore the Kuluin magic. Even if you already have children at our school, a tour gives your 2026 Prep child a special opportunity to see the school with fresh eyes and meet potential classmates.
Children born between July 1st, 2020 and June 30th, 2021 are eligible to start Prep in 2026. To book a tour or collect an enrolment pack, please contact the school office or visit www.kuluinss.eq.edu.au. We’ll also be visiting local kindergartens soon and can’t wait to meet our newest Kuluin learners!
Kind Regards,
Jess Thompson
Deputy Principal P-2
Year 3 to 5
As we reach this point in the term, I want to take a moment to recognise the ongoing effort and commitment shown by both our staff and students. It’s been a term with its fair share of challenges, but our school community has responded with resilience and a strong sense of teamwork.
A big thank you also goes to our wider school community for your continued support. In a world that’s busier than ever, having a supportive network around our students and staff makes all the difference.
As we look ahead, it’s a good time to reflect on the importance of maintaining the high standards of behaviour we value here at The Kuluin School. A positive, respectful environment helps every student feel safe, supported, and ready to do their best.
Thanks for continuing to work together to help our students do their best—both in learning and in life.
Celebrating Maths Excellence Parade
Congratulations to all the students who have been invited to take part in the World of Maths Excellence Program this term. These students have shown great skill in mathematics and enjoy a fun day full of activities organized by the World of Maths team.
The Excellence Parade celebrating the students who attended will be in in week this terms activity will be in weeks 8 and 9.
P-2 Excellence Parade Week 8
3-6 Excellence Parade Week 9
A big thank you to the parents and carers who plan to come along to the Excellence Parade. Your support means a lot to the students and really helps create the positive and encouraging environment we value at our school.
Year 3 Australia Zoo Excursion
Thank you to the staff and volunteers that made the Year 3 Australia Zoo Excursion a success.
Our students were able to experience the world of living things in a real and engaging way. They are now ready to convert their new knowledge into information reports as part of the term 2 English task.
Year 4 Living History Incursion
Our Year 4 students had a great time exploring Colonial Australia and the history of the First Fleet through hands-on, interactive activities run by the Living Histories program—it really brought Australian history to life!
A big thank you to the staff who made this experience possible. Your efforts have helped our students become more engaged and informed, and we truly appreciate it.
Year 5 Sunshine Coast University Careers Expo excursion.
In week 10 our year 5 students will be participating in the 2025 UNISC Careers Expo. This is an opportunity to visit the Sunshine Coast Campus to learn about various careers through presentations and hands-on activities.
This could be the event to spark the passion of our students to continue down the many different pathways for the future.
Kind Regards,
Pete Fittler
Deputy Principal 3-5
Year 6
Year 6 Highlights – Great Behaviour and Exciting Learning!
Positive Behaviour Across the Board It’s been a fantastic fortnight in Year 6, with students showing outstanding behaviour across classrooms, in the playground, and during transitions. Their leadership and positive example across the school is something to be proud of.
Make and Meld Incursion A big highlight was the Make and Meld incursion – a hands-on experience that sparked creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. Students loved exploring innovative materials and design thinking in a really fun and engaging way.
Exciting Events Ahead We’re also looking forward to some key events coming up in Term 2. Year 6 Camp is just around the corner from 16–18 May – always a memorable experience for students to challenge themselves, connect with peers, and create lasting memories.
Shortly after, our talented String and Concert Band students will take the stage with performances scheduled for 9–10 June. We can’t wait to see them shine!
Here to Support As always, if there’s anything I can support you with—whether it's a quick check-in, behaviour support, or just a sounding board—please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help.
Kind Regards,
Benjamin Gaske
Deputy Principal 6

Report Cards
At the end of this term all students will receive an End of Semester Report Card. This will be a summary of your child’s academic achievement in the learning areas studied this semester. This report is one of a number of strategies used by our school to communicate to you about your child’s achievement, effort and behaviour.
Teachers will report on each student’s achievement, against aspects of the achievement standard that have been taught and assessed during Term 1 and Term 2. The report represents the student’s level of achievement at the time of reporting.
Reports will be sent home via email on Wednesday 25 June.
If your email details have changed or if you require a printed copy of the report card, please contact the office as soon as possible.

Queensland Squash Championships
Recently Arthur F competed at the State Squash Championships. Over 4 days, Arthur played a mixture of singles and doubles matches. This was the first time in 17 years that the Sunshine Coast have had a regional team. Out of the 10 regions that participated they finished 4th out of 10 regions. Great work, Arthur!

Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
In Term 2, students in Years 5 and 6 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.
We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students.
If you have any questions, please contact the school. More information, including FAQs, can be found on the Education website:(https://qed.qld.gov.au/publications/reports/statistics/schooling/students/queensland-engagement-wellbeing-survey).

Message from your local police
As you are all aware, parking around the school is limited, local police together with the School and council work hard to provide a safe area for the children to be dropped off and picked up.
The Loading Zone for drop off and pick up at the front of the school to work efficiently requires cooperation from all parents to ensure quick movement of vehicles through the area. Please note that the 2-minute loading zones are designed for the driver to remain in the vehicle whilst the children load or unload. It is not a waiting area you can only stop here once the children are on the footpath. If you do leave your vehicle, no matter how quick you are you are committing an offence -PLEASE NOTE These areas are designed to keep the vehicles moving and to provide a safe place for our children to get in or out of cars.
Please do
- Plan your trip to avoid arrival at peak times
- Pick-up or drop-off children via the car’s kerb doors in the designated zones
- Drive out safely
- If your children are not at your arranged spot, go around the block and try again
- Wait until your children are secure in seatbelts before driving off.
Do not
- Stop on Yellow Lines
- Allow Children to get into your vehicle whilst you are illegally parked.
- Get out of your vehicle
- Double park
- Arrive early in the afternoon and sit in the zone
- Use staff parking areas
