Principal’s Report

Dear Kuluin Families,
As we reach the end of Term 2, we take a moment to reflect with pride on the many achievements, celebrations, and connections that have made this term so rewarding for our students, staff, and families. Our school is more than just a place of learning—it’s a thriving community where every child is supported to shine.
Highlights from the Term
The second half of this term has been filled with activities and opportunities for students and families to be part of our growing Kuluin culture. Whether you were cheering at the finish line or sharing the joy of a book discovery, your involvement has made a difference.
Some of the events include:
- Athletics Carnival – Thankyou to our Sports Captains and Sport Vice Captains for the role they play in encouraging participation for all whilst promoting fun, determination and teamwork
- Reading Parent Workshops – Thank you to our wonderful parents who joined us to support literacy learning at home.
- Prep Tours – Welcoming our newest Kuluin families with warmth and excitement.
- Bookfair – A celebration of reading that brought smiles and stories into homes.
- Maths Excellence Day – A showcase of high-level thinking and mathematical fun.
- Gula Gold Reward Day – Recognising the fantastic behaviour and efforts of our students.
(Don’t forget to look at the Kuluin State School Facebook page to see the joy in action—photos and videos from these events are shared regularly!)
Thank You, Kuluin Staff
Behind every student success story is a team of passionate educators and support staff. From the classroom to the playground, our team is deeply committed to nurturing each child’s journey. Our staff go above and beyond every day to deliver learning that matters, and their dedication does not go unnoticed.
“The ability to read, write, and analyse; the confidence to stand up and demand justice and equality... all of that starts with education.” Michelle Obama
At Kuluin, we believe education truly changes lives—and we are proud to walk alongside our students on that path.
Gula Gold & Positive Behaviour for Learning
Our second key school priority is to strengthen student engagement and schoolwide expectations through our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework.
Why Gula Gold matters:
- It recognises positive behaviour in a fast, consistent, and motivating way.
- It reinforces our school’s shared expectations and helps students feel seen and valued.
- It strengthens connections between staff and students through ongoing encouragement.
Looking Ahead
As we head into the winter holidays, we wish every Kuluin family a safe and joyful break. Thank you for your ongoing support, involvement, and belief in our school. We look forward to another term of connection and growth. School resumes on Monday, 14th July.
Kind Regards,
Corrie Connors

Prep to Year 2
Halfway Through the Year – Celebrating Success and Looking Ahead
Can you believe we are already nearly halfway through the 2025 school year? This milestone is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your child’s growth and celebrate their progress with the first report card of the year. We are incredibly proud of all students’ achievements and look forward to supporting their continued development in the second half of 2025.
Term 2 has been filled with engaging learning experiences and memorable events, and Term 3 is shaping up to be just as rewarding. While report cards provide a valuable snapshot of your child’s academic progress, it’s important to remember that they cannot capture everything that makes your child unique and amazing.
Reading at Kuluin
A big thank you to the parents who attended our recent reading workshops. It was a pleasure to share the research, theory and classroom practices that underpin our structured reading approach at Kuluin, as well as practical ways to support reading at home.
Stay tuned to our Facebook page as we launch a new Reading Series designed to strengthen the connection between home and school, providing insight into the Science of Reading and how we bring it to life in our classrooms.

Nambour Show Success
A special mention must go to our wonderful Teacher Aide, Ms Tenille, for once again coordinating Kuluin’s school display at the Nambour Show. The student artwork and work samples were nothing short of spectacular. Our Minecraft Kuluin model took out second place in the school competition, and a number of students received ribbons for their outstanding art and handwriting entries. Congratulations to all involved—your talents continue to shine!

Prep Enrolments for 2026
Our Prep transition program for 2026 is now underway, and we’ve begun visiting local Kindergartens to meet our future Kuluin Kids. This year, we are offering fortnightly Prep Tours to help families get to know our wonderful school.
If you have a child starting Prep in 2026, or know someone who does, now is the time to enrol. Children born between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021 are eligible to begin Prep in 2026.
🔗 Book a tour here: https://kuluinss.schoolzineplus.com/form/204
📄 Enrolment packs are available from the school office or can be downloaded from our website: www.kuluinss.eq.edu.au

Families already attending Kuluin SS who have a child starting Prep in 2026 are encouraged to contact the office as soon as possible to arrange a tour and complete the enrolment process.

Farewell Mr Phil Allen – A Kuluin Legend
After an incredible 32 years of dedicated service to Kuluin State School, we bid a fond farewell to Mr Phil Allen—a beloved teacher, colleague, and community member.
Phil’s contribution to our school community is nothing short of extraordinary. Whether in the classroom, out on the oval, or sharing one of his signature stories with a smile, Phil has left an indelible mark on generations of students, staff, and families.
Over the past 12 years, it has been an absolute pleasure working alongside Phil. His warmth, humour, and unwavering commitment to the success of every child are just a few of the qualities that have made him so deeply respected and admired.
A teacher’s legacy lives on in the lives they touch—and Phil’s legacy at Kuluin is truly BIG.
While we will miss his presence greatly, we are excited for what lies ahead as Phil sets off in his big 4WD to begin a well-earned retirement filled with adventure, travel, and relaxation.
Thank you, Phil, for everything you have given to Kuluin SS. You will always be a part of the Kuluin family.
Wishing all our families a safe and restful winter break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 14th July for another fantastic term of learning.
Kind Regards,
Jess Thompson

End of Semester
Another term filled with fresh challenges, growth, and celebrations — done and dusted!
As we wrap up, I’d like to take a moment to sincerely thank all staff at Kuluin SS — our teachers, teacher aides, and incredible support crew. Whether it’s clean toilets, freshly mowed ovals, or setting high expectations and delivering strong outcomes, every contribution matters. It’s the people who make our school the amazing place it is.
Thank you for everything you do!
Maths Excellence at Kuluin SS
Congratulations to all students and staff involved in the recent World of Maths Excellence activity!
Our students were highly praised by the visiting facilitators — not only for their outstanding effort and behaviour, but also for their strong mathematical understanding and impressive problem-solving skills.
One of the facilitators, Megan from World of Maths, had this to say: “The kids here (at Kuluin SS) are so independent, they think things through, and problem solve together, and they’re solving activities faster than Year 7 and 8 groups I’ve had.”
What an amazing compliment for our school!
A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers — your support and guidance help our students shine.

Kind Regards,
Pete Fittler

Report Cards
At the end of this term all students will receive an End of Semester Report Card. This will be a summary of your child’s academic achievement in the learning areas studied this semester. This report is one of a number of strategies used by our school to communicate to you about your child’s achievement, effort and behaviour.
Teachers will report on each student’s achievement, against aspects of the achievement standard that have been taught and assessed during Term 1 and Term 2. The report represents the student’s level of achievement at the time of reporting.
Reports will be sent home via email on Wednesday 25 June.
If your email details have changed or if you require a printed copy of the report card, please contact the office as soon as possible.
