Principal’s Report

I would like to acknowledge our amazing prep teachers and teacher aides who have been busy meeting with all our families in individual meetings to support a smooth transition of our prep students to our school – Mrs Barillaro, Miss Kara Jason, Mrs Gillett, Mrs Koch, Mrs Baker, Mrs Brent, Mrs Hunt, Mr Evans, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Smart. The prep area is buzzing with excited learners with the first month of school being an important time for our staff to support of youngest children of the school transition well. We greatly value the early years partnerships that we have established with our local early year’s centres such as Goodstart Early Learning Maroochydore, Goodstart Early Learning Buderim and Kuluin C&K. Many of the children from such centres have been visiting our school for the past year borrowing books from our Resource Centre and attending events such as U8’s Day.
A few weeks ago, we held our Student Leadership Investiture. I am really looking forward to working with our student leaders. Their enthusiasm shines through. It gives us great joy to see our leaders enjoying their new role. I am exceptionally pleased with the great start that all of our Year 6 students have had this year, and this sets the right tone across the whole school. Thank you to Mr Smith, Mr Allen, Mr Harvey and Mrs Churchward for setting high expectations for behaviour and learning across this important year level for our students.
ALL students at Kuluin are exposed to extension experiences. I can think of several programs such as our Excellence programs, Optiminds and Problem Solvers Club that teach students to stretch themselves, work in teams and to challenge their thinking.
Some specific examples for term 1 include:
- District sport trials. A number of Kuluin students have already been selected in a range of teams. We will recognize their achievement at our Year 3-6 Excellence parade Wednesday 26th March (Week 9). At Kuluin we have committed teachers who have nominated to coach or manage a school, district, or regional team this year.
- A large number of staff run lunch time clubs or coach a sport while on playground duty.

- The Year 3-6 Cross Country is scheduled for Friday 21st March (Week 8). All year levels are invited to join us for Run Club each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8.30am on the oval in the lead up to our Cross Country and Fun Run.
- The Colour Fun Run for the whole school is Thursday 27th March (Week 9). We are getting into the spirit of fundraising with sliming staff and awarding prizes such as ice blocks for the top raising classes.
- Selected students in Year 5 and Year 6 will attend Writers in Residence at Maroochydore State High School this term
- Our Visual Arts and Excellence workshop for selected students in Prep – Year 6 will occur in the next few weeks. I would like to acknowledge Ms. Ayesha Henderson one of our parents for running this workshop. We have a great partnership with our parents who have supported our Excellence programs over a number of years now at Kuluin.
Kind Regards

Year Prep to 2
What a fantastic start to the school year! Our Kuluin kids are amazing, and it has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and dedication to learning. A special shoutout to our Prep students, who continue to settle in beautifully—they are blowing my mind with their incredible work!
I have also been lucky to receive some wonderful visits from our Pre-Year 2 writers, who are showing such amazing growth in their literacy skills. It is always inspiring to see their confidence and creativity developing as they engage with writing.
Another highlight has been visiting classrooms, where students are making fantastic use of learning walls to 'bump up their work' and set high expectations for themselves. It’s great to see them taking ownership of their learning and striving to achieve their best. When you visit the classroom, take a look at the learning walls with student samples and the criteria which students are working within. It’s a credit to the quality of education, students receive at Kuluin.
Exciting Events Ahead!
🔹 Easter Bonnet Parade – Friday, Last Day of Term
We are looking forward to celebrating with our Prep and Year 1 students at the Easter Bonnet Parade on the last Friday of term. This is always a fun and festive event, and we are excited to welcome the Kuluin community, including our local Kindy friends, to join in the celebration. What a fabulous way to wrap up the term!
🔹 Run Club Success
A huge thank you to Mr. Woods and his dedicated team of teachers for running Run Club on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings to help students prepare for Cross Country. Their dedication to promoting health and fitness is truly appreciated.
🔹 P&C Colour Fun Run
We are incredibly excited for the upcoming P&C Colour Fun Run on the 27th of March! It promises to be a fantastic afternoon filled with fun, laughter, COLOUR and community spirit. This important fundraiser will help support the goal of upgrading the school’s water bubbler systems with coolers—a great initiative to keep our students refreshed and hydrated. We hope to see many families joining in to celebrate and support this cause.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to an amazing term ahead!

Curriculum News

At Kuluin State School, students have access to a wide range of online resources to support their learning. These resources are funded through our Student Resource Scheme (SRS). This year we have a number of tools to engage, excite and educate students at Kuluin. For each of the subscriptions below students can receive their own individual sign on and password which allows access at school and at home, pending 3rd party permission completion.
Sunshine Online
Students in Prep to Year 6 can use Sunshine Online to access online fiction and nonfiction texts. (Prep will begin using this later in the year) Two vast libraries offer quality texts for children who are just beginning to read, right through to those who are developing fluency and independence. In the Decodable Library, books are automatically unlocked as students work their way through the systematic and sequential order of learning. Digital assessment is also included. In the Levelled Library, teachers can select and assign appropriate titles to students to best fit their learning journey. Both libraries can be used in the classroom for independent learning, and for take-home reading.
Mathletics
Students in Year 3 to Year 6 have access to Mathletics. Mathletics engages students with Mathematics learning with fresh activities and challenges, online games and live Math challenges. Teachers are able to gain insights into how individual students and classes are progressing and tailor programs to suit individual needs. Mathletics helps student master topics through practice and fluency, and challenges their higher order thinking with problem solving and reasoning questions.
ClickView
Students from Prep to Year 6 have access to ClickView. ClickView is a video content resource for schools. Teachers and students are able to access curriculum-aligned video content plus contextual on-demand TV. The primary video library is regularly updated with new releases added each month. ClickView gives Kuluin teachers and students access to original curriculum aligned content as well as content from free to air and Foxtel.
Stile
Students in Year 5 and Year 6 have access to Stile. Stile is a digital tool which predominantly supports teaching and learning in the area of Science. It is purpose-built to facilitate vibrant, collaborative learning with a mixture of rich, interactive activities. Stile is engaging for all students and lessons are scaffolded from lower to higher order thinking, ensuring all students are challenged. Interactive simulations allow students to model and run experiments.
Smart Lab
Students in Year 3 to Year 6 have access to Smart Lab. Smart Lab targets Learning through Diagnostics, Differentiation and Multimodal Learning. SmartLab’s diagnostics are aligned to the Australian Curriculum and general capabilities and diagnostics direct each student to targeted and tailored tutorials designed to meet their specific learning needs.
Please note: To ensure your child receives individual access to the online subscriptions above, parents should make payment of the SRS and complete all 3rd Party Permissions requirements.

Message from your local police
As you are all aware, parking around the school is limited, local police together with the School and council work hard to provide a safe area for the children to be dropped off and picked up.
The Loading Zone for drop off and pick up at the front of the school to work efficiently requires cooperation from all parents to ensure quick movement of vehicles through the area. Please note that the 2 minute loading zones are designed for the driver to remain in the vehicle whilst the children load or unload. It is not a waiting area you can only stop here once the children are on the footpath. If you do leave your vehicle, no matter how quick you are you are committing an offence - PLEASE NOTE These areas are designed to keep the vehicles moving and to provide a safe place for our children to get in or out of cars.
Please do
- Plan your trip to avoid arrival at peak times
- Pick-up or drop-off children via the car’s kerb doors in the designated zones
- Drive out safely
- If your children are not at your arranged spot, go around the block and try again
- Wait to you children are secure in seatbelts before driving off.
Do not
- Stop on Yellow Lines
- Allow Children to get into your vehicle whilst you are illegally parked.
- Get out of your vehicle
- Double park
- Arrive early in the afternoon and sit in the zone
- Use staff parking areas
